Whole School SEND CPD Event - Developing the Strategic SENCO

South West Regional leads for Whole School SEND are pleased to invite members of the Community of Practice to attend this free CPD event, featuring guest speakers Na-
talie Packer and Simon Knight

The training will take place 9.30—3.30 on either:

This training day will lead delegates through the process of developing the SENCO as a strategic leader.

9.30 to 9.45 Regional leads for Whole School SEND, Erica Wolstenholme and Sam Gilronan will share the messages and key issues that have emerged from the first series of conferences.

9.45 to 10.45 Natalie Packer: Natalie is an Independent Education Consultant, specialising in SEND and school improvement.  She develops and delivers a wide range of training and support to educational professionals. Natalie is a trustee of Learn-AT multi-academy trust in the East Midlands, a consultant governor for a school in Dubai and supports the Whole School SEND review process. She is the author of The Perfect SENCO and The Teacher’s Guide to SEN

Natalie’s session will consider the role of the SENCO as strategic leader, with a particular focus on working with other leaders, developing provision for SEN support, providing CPD for staff and monitoring impact.

10.45 to 11.00 break

11.00 to 12.00:  Simon Knight is a National Director for Whole School SEND: “With projected demand outstripping Specialist sector supply, there is a strong likelihood that complexity in mainstream classrooms will increase in the years to come. Through exploring the SEND Reflection Framework, Simon will share with you, ways of supporting your staff to develop their confidence and competence with regards to SEND to ensure all children get the education they deserve.”

12.00 to 12.30 Questions to the panel.

12.30 to 1.00pm lunch

1.00 to 2.00pm Lorwyn Randall: Lorwyn leads the Education Endowment Foundation’s work in the South West & South Coast. Until recently, Lorwyn spent five years as a senior leader at Kingsbridge Community College and has twelve years of experience teaching RE and Philosophy.

In this session, Lorwyn will explore the evidence on effective implementation in schools and consider how strategies related to SEND can be given the best chance of success.

2.00pm to 3.00pm Olwyn Donnelly and Fiona Turnbull: Olwyn and Fiona are strategic leads for SEND for BANES and Somerset respectively, they have developed and embedded the graduated approach across their local authorities and will explore how this can be embedded in school practice.

3.00 to 3.30pm developing an action plan: the opportunity to reflect on the key messages from the day and to identify actions for to be incorporated into your school improvement strategy.
