Audience:  Designated NLEs and Teaching School Heads who are eligible to deliver the 19-20 School Improvement Offer.
 
Objective(s): To ensure that designated system leaders are fully briefed on changes to the new SI offer for 19-20, and are prepared for their deployments to eligible schools.
 
Summary/Description: This is a 'wash up' event for those NLEs/TS Heads who were unable to attend the regional training event on Oct 1st.

Conducting an Effective External Review of Governance  - Bristol

This year’s School Improvement Offer highlights the importance of External Reviews of Governance in consolidating school improvement.  Regional Governance Leads will be running an updated training day on how to plan and conduct an External Review of Governance to analyse how well a school's governance is working and to identify ways to support and develop school leadership. They will share best practice examples from across the Region.

The session will include practical exercises in:  

(1) What new challenges arise from the 2019 Ofsted framework

(2) Contracting and setting objectives for the ERG,

(3) Recognising differences of Governance structures

(4) Identifying key documents for review,

(5)  Interviewing,

(6) The self-assessment questionnaire,

(7) Writing the ERG Report,

(8) Supporting the completion of a SMART Action Plan and

(9) Quality assurance and ongoing support
