SEND

 Our Aim

To align priorities and resource within existing SEND networks and among SEND specialist system leaders to address regional priorities, harnessing expertise from special schools, current SSIF projects, regional pilots and other successful partnership working, to inform best practice at local and school level.

 Context:

Teaching schools that are led by Special schools provide a resource for system development in the area of SEND.  Regionally Special Teaching schools are working together as a collaborative under the title, ‘Network of Special Teaching School Alliances’ (NeSTSA).  We believe that through joint practice we can maximise impact educational outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

Special schools and mainstream schools have a strong history of working together.  Team SW and the regional Teaching schools council aim to shine a light on the best practice illustrating how such collaborations can benefit all involved, leading to tangible benefits.

Special schools have an important role to play in system leadership – enabling the very best of school to school support.

 Our Objectives:

  1. To promote a culture of inclusivity, in which all pupils in the SW are valued for the contributions they make.
  2. To develop the collaborative partnership of Special Teaching Schools in the South West (NeSTSA) and provide an enhanced offer to schools and academies.
  3. To support the process of SEND audits/ reviews so that schools can  understand what they need to develop
  4. To use outcomes of SEND audit and good practice examples across the region, to publish guidance to all schools/academies in the region on the development of productive partnerships between special and mainstream schools, informed by the SEND School Improvement Partnership Projects
